‘I am grateful before You, Eternal Presence.
You returned my soul to me with compassion. Your faith (in us) is great.’
What comes before ‘good morning in our tradition?’
‘Thank You.’
Modah Ani (I am grateful) is the first phrase out of our mouths after regaining consciousness. For truly, our souls travel great distances during the night. It is no small miracle to wake up in the morning (especially for those of us who are night owls)
This melody was composed by my teacher, Roni Ish-Ran, who is, himself, a great night owl. Perhaps you can hear it in the mournfulness of the tune.

It is rich in women's energy, deeply felt sounds of womb energy. A beautiful expression of the best of women in the Jewish hera-tage! Chana Raskin moves my soul, an Irish soul have I! Morgana Morgaine mollymaven
Instant classic collection of ancient-sounding modern nigunim (spiritual melodies) traversing the full range of emotions, from the depths of unrequited yearning to the heights of resplendent ecstasy, using only the power of the voice. Been listening to this album for 10 years, my ears, heart and soul have yet to tire of these tunes. Phish Talmud
